Developed in the mid 1960’s, Maple Village, along with its inclusive Tomahawk Hills, Mapleview and Hummingbird Hill subdivisions, is bounded by 90th Street, Maple Street, I-680, and Fort Street. Now, one of northwestern Omaha’s largest neighborhoods, it has attracted home owners of many demographics with its moderately-priced, well-maintained houses on quiet, tree-lined streets.
Home styles of the area are typical of those built in the 1960’s—ranches, splits, multi-levels, and tri-levels. Many have original hard-wood floors with added modern amenities and up-dates, specifically additional baths, remodeled kitchens, new windows and siding. Price points typically range from $100,000 to $150,000 with exceptions for smaller “fixers” or remodeled homes with additional square footage.
Within the development are the well-maintained Maple Village Park, Warren Swigart Golf Course, and Maple Village Country Club. Several smaller parks are scattered throughout the area. The nine-hole golf course is managed by the Omaha Parks and Recreation Department and is open to the public. Membership to the Country Club is open to all residents of the area with membership fees on a sliding scale. The major attraction is the heated swimming pool along with a picnic area, volleyball and tennis courts.
The Maple Village Neighborhood Association serves all of the subdivisions listed above and sponsors a National Night Out, a chili and pie contest, a 4th of July parade, summer picnic, spring clean-up, and a neighborhood garage sale. It is also pro-active in addressing problems which may arise, i.e. street maintenance, noise complaints, trash pick-up, etc.
Laura Dodge Elementary School, part of the OPS system, is within the neighborhood, and Morton Middle School and Northwest High School are a short drive away. There is also a large parochial K-8 school within the area.
Numerous retail outlets, restaurants, banks, etc. are found along the Maple Street and 90th Street corridors, and other shopping centers, including the Westroads Mall are nearby. Employment is easily accessible in numerous office and light industrial parks located in the Northwest quadrant of the city. And I-680 provides a quick route to almost all other areas of Omaha.
